Introduction to pen
Pen is a kind of pen writing tool mainly using metal as the body. It holds ink (mostly black or blue) through a hollow pen tube, and then writes through a duck beak pen head according to gravity and capillary action.
The evolution of pen
2000 BC: reed pen
The Egyptians used hollow tubular marsh grass to make reed pens. One end of the reed pen was cut into a pointed shape as a pen tip. The reed stem was filled with ink for writing. When the stem was pressed, the ink would flow to the pen tip.
Ad 600: quill pen
The so-called feather pen is naturally made of bird feathers. At that time, the best feathers were drawn from live swans, turkeys or geese. Goose feather was more common, so it was also called "goose feather pen".
Since feather pens cannot store ink, they must be dipped in ink to write. Feather pens are more durable than reed pens.
Feather pens are usually equipped with a penknife, because the pen head will wear after a period of use, so it needs to be sharpened frequently.
1809: water storage pen
Britain issued the first batch of patent certificates for water storage pens. In the early water storage pens, the ink could not flow freely. Each time you write, you need to press the piston to make the ink flow. After writing for a while, you have to press it again, otherwise the ink won't flow out. It is very inconvenient to write in this way.
1829: dip pen
The Englishman jamesbailey successfully developed the steel nib. After special processing, it is smooth and flexible, and the writing is quite smooth, which is deeply welcomed by people. The disadvantage is that the pen must be dipped in ink to write.
1827: pen
In 1827, Romanian inventor petracpoynaru invented the first pen. However, its design cannot control the flow of ink, resulting in frequent ink stains or no ink.
In 1884, Waltman, an employee of an American insurance company, solved this problem well. He invented a method to supply ink with capillary tubes, so as to control the flow of ink well. Therefore, later generations called him "the father of fountain pens".
Why does the pen water automatically?
The principle of fountain pen water is capillary action. Generally speaking, it is not fountain pen water, but paper that absorbs water onto itself. A pen is the equivalent of storing ink.
How to maintain the pen?
1. The ink shall be acid-base neutral or alkaline ink
2. Try not to switch between different inks
3. Insist on regular use
4. Wash the pen every six months
